CHS's Derris International Links with Spanish Partner

CHS's Derris International Links with Spanish Partner Derris International from Calhoun High School recently participated in a videoconference with their new partner school in Oveida, Spain. According to school officials, Derris International is a student-owned import/export company that has had a partner school in Scoland for the past few years. This year, the company has expanded to include other European secondary schools. "It is very exciting for us to expand our international trading operation by pairing with IES Cerdeno School in Spain," said Debra Moyer, Youth Apprenticeship Coordinator at CHS. "We have included Jackie Palazzolo's senior IB Spanish class with Derris International to assist with product developoment for import and export." Palazzolo's students conducted the videoconference, Moyer added, because there was only one translator that spoke English. "Her Spanish class traveled to Spain last year, and their input on this project is invaluable," she said.

The group of the 12 combined students spend more than an hour live and on line with their new partners in Spain. The conference was conducted through the Northwest Georgia RESA location in Rome. "The technology is absolutely amazing," said one of the students. Derris International also sells the commemorative bricks for the Alumni Courtyard at Calhoun High School.
